“Stars Align” is the official slogan of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, LA28 announced Wednesday. LA28 described the slogan as a “rallying cry and an invitation for athletes to compete on sport’s biggest stage.”
LA28 announced “Stars Align” in a video posted to its social media platforms, depicting the L.A. landmarks like the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory, and venues for the games, including the L.A. Memorial Coliseum.
“The greatest moments in sport don’t just happen. Athletes work their whole lives for them. In 2028, hard work meets the city of dreams,” said LA28 Chief Marketing Officer Alex Merchán in a statement. “That’s what ‘Stars Align’ is about.”
Each Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee chooses a slogan to represent the spirit of its host city and country. Previous Olympic slogans have included “A New World” for Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020’s “United by Emotion,” and most recently, Paris 2024 with “Games Wide Open.” The stars will align for another Olympic Games in L.A. on July 14, 2028, followed by the Paralympic Games on August 15, 2028.
The LA28 Organizing Committee said the concept behind the slogan choice is that “the stars align when dedication meets a generational moment.” 2028 will bring athletes from across the globe and years of preparation to the entertainment capital of the world, LA28 said.
The 2028 Olympics will mark the third time L.A. has hosted an Olympic Games, making it the third city ever to host the Games three times, behind London and Paris. L.A. will also host its first-ever Paralympic Games in 2028.
“Los Angeles is the place where dreams take flight, and the Olympics show us what’s possible when the world unites,” said LA28 Chairperson and President Casey Wasserman in a statement. “Stars Align’ is a call to action, whether you’re an athlete at the peak of your skill, a volunteer welcoming the world to these Games, or a fan cheering passionately from the stands. We can’t wait for the stars to align in 2028 so we can share this moment with everyone.”
