Marcus’ 4 a.m. Tuesday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Strong high pressure continues to dominate the Ohio Valley through Saturday. This means zero rain for Indianapolis through the weekend.

But the ridge weakens late Saturday, opening the door for tropical moisture to surge northward. By Sunday morning, we could be dealing with a completely different weather pattern.

TODAY:

Sunny and pleasant with highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees. Northwest winds at 5 to 10 mph.

TONIGHT:

Clear skies with lows in the mid to upper 40s for Indianapolis. Not quite as chilly as the past couple of mornings.

WEDNESDAY – FRIDAY:

The dry pattern holds strong. Expect mostly sunny skies each day with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Morning lows in the mid to upper 40s.

This is textbook October weather for Central Indiana—cool mornings, mild afternoons

? FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS CONTINUE:

Today through Friday will feature poor conditions for any outdoor burning. Low humidity, light winds, and very dry ground could easily help in spreading fires under these conditions.

While we don’t have any burn bans in place, it would be wise to avoid open burning through at least this weekend.

? TROPICAL SYSTEM THIS WEEKEND?

We’re tracking tropical remnants in the western Gulf . This system is forecast to move northward and could impact Central Indiana by Sunday morning.

What we know:

  • Heavy rain is possible Sunday into Monday
  • Wind gusts could increase Sunday afternoon
  • Track uncertainty remains high—this forecast will change

What we don’t know:

  • Exact track of the system. It could take aim on Indiana, or could miss us south.
  • Rainfall totals (could range from 0.5 to 2+ inches)
  • Timing of heaviest rain

Stay tuned to updates through the week on how this system evolves.

THE WEEKEND:

SATURDAY:
Mostly sunny early, then increasing clouds late. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.

SATURDAY NIGHT:
Clouds increase as moisture returns from the south. Rain chances increase after midnight. Lows in the low to mid 50s.

SUNDAY:
Rain likely. Heavy downpours possible depending on the track of tropical remnants. Highs in the mid 70s.
